Three YZF-R1Ms In The Top Six Places At Jerez Round

With team regulars Kev Coghlan (MRS Yamaha) and Florian Marino (MRS Yamaha) out through injury at the seventh round of the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup their rides were taken over by Austria's Lukas Trautmann and Mathew Scholtz from South Africa.

Each of the MRS Riders was a rookie to this class at the start of the weekend and riding against more than 30 more experienced riders - many with more testing laps behind them - they each had to work hard in practice and qualifying, even before getting to the race itself.

The best Yamaha finisher after the 15-lap Jerez contest was fifth place qualifier Riccardo Russo (G.M. Racing Yamaha), who took his YZF-R1M to fourth place in his first ride for the team.

Coming home just over a second behind the Italian rider in what were great weather conditions, championship regular Jeremy Guarnoni (Team Trasimeno Yamaha), was fifth and new boy Trautmann a close sixth.

Mathew Scholtz was 12th, improving on his 16th place grid slot. Luca Marconi (Team Trasimeno Yamaha) was the final Yamaha rider who scored points at Jerez, for 14th place.

The final round of the championship takes place in France, at Magny-Cours, in two week's from now, with raceday on Sunday October 4th.

Riccardo Russo
4th / +8.281/ 15 laps

"My start was no good but I was lapping quite fast and step-by-step I passed people. I think fourth was a good result and in this race it was possible to have had a podium. I think it is also possible for us to have a good race in Magny Cours. Thanks to all in the team for allowing me to have a positive raceday."

Jeremy Guarnoni
5th / +9.377/ 15 laps

"I had a problem with the brakes from the start. I had to adjust the brakes every lap and lost two seconds when I ran off at one time, before returning to the track. At the end I passed three riders but the next two riders in front were just too far in front to catch. Without this problem I could have made a much better race."

Lukas Trautmann
6th / +10.007/ 15 laps

"I was really impressed with how high the level is in this championship. The first guys are on the top level, with good material and in factory teams. For sure we have had no testing for two days and everybody was already here. Maybe we could have made this little step to the 'top-top' but in the end it was nearly top five. Thank you to everyone who made this weekend happen."

Mathew Scholtz
12th / +19.319/ 15 laps

"My start was not the best so I tried to ride around the outside of the guys in the first corner but then I got pushed wide and dropped down. I had a group of three guys in front of me and I tried to catch them but I just kept losing the front end and had to settle for 12th place. I am pretty happy for the first race."
