Yamaha secure double Enduro 1 class podium in Spain

Team Yamaha Miglio earn two third place finishes at round two of the Enduro World Championship

Showing impressive speed and a desire to lead Team Yamaha Miglio during the 2015 FIM Enduro World Championship, Cristobal Guerrero put his familiarity of dry, dusty Spanish terrain to good use and secured a pair of well-deserved third place results at the GP of Spain based at the Jerez Circuito de Velocidad.

Continuing to go from strength to strength having made a positive start to his Enduro 1 campaign at the championship opening GP of Chile, Guerrero wasted no time in establishing himself as a podium challenger in Jerez. Fourth in class following Friday night's super test, the Malaga native then put in a solid opening lap on day one.

With the GP of Spain proving to be extremely hot and dusty Guerrero maintained his pace, putting in his best performance on the extreme test mid-way through the day. Unable to challenge eventual day winner Christophe Nambotin, Cristobal earned his first podium result of the series while showing that he is well on the road to his best form following his three-month injury lay-off during the winter months.

Day two saw Guerrero match his day one result of third. Once again quickly up to speed during the opening lap, he continued to make light work of the extreme test and again joined Christophe Nambotin and Eero Remes on the podium. Cristobal now sits fourth in the Enduro 1 World Championship standings just one-point behind third placed Danny McCanney.

For Gianluca Martini the GP of Spain ended positively. Continuing to find his feet in international competition, the Italian ended the event with 10th on day one and eighth on day two. A fall early on day one meant Martini had to give his all in order to secure a top 10 result, which he did thanks in part to finishing fourth in class on the penultimate enduro test. Making a stronger start to day two Gianluca remained consistent to place eighth. He now sits eighth in the Enduro 1 World Championship standings.

Yamaha Motor France supported rider Marc Bourgeois had high hopes of returning to the podium in Spain yet ended the second round of the EWC with fifth and sixth place results. A big crash at the start of day one left the Frenchman playing catch up, eventually working his way back to fifth. On day two Marc sat fourth for much of the day with a late race push for the podium ending with numerous small falls that dropped him to sixth. Two rounds into the 2015 Enduro 1 World Championship and Bourgeois sits fifth in the standings.

The FIM Maxxis Enduro World Championship continues with round two in Gouveia, Portugal on May 16-17.

Cristobal Guerrero

"Getting two podium finishes in my home GP is something really positive. I was always confident I could be among the top three. Now the only thing we've got to do is continue working on the exact same plan. After the GP of Chile we improved some details on the new WR250F and my feeling was better than ever before here in Spain. It's also good having so many people cheering for you. The Spanish fans were amazing. It was a good weekend for me and I'm hoping for an even better GP in Portugal."

"It was a really good weekend for me. Day one started with two crashes early in the race and I spent the rest of the day trying to recover. Things were much better on day two. I decided to push a lot from the beginning and managed to stay inside the top five for most of the day. Finally, some mistakes dropped me to eighth but only ten seconds away from top five. I've got an exceptional feeling with the bike and my plan is to fight for the top five in Portugal."

Massimo Migliorati - Team Yamaha Miglio Team Manager

"We're making huge progress with our team and the bike. During the off-season Cristobal had an injury that forced him to stay away from his training for three months. His two podium finishes here in Spain prove that he's gradually regained his top form. I'm really positive Cristobal can consistently be on the podium and why not try to get some wins in Enduro 1. Gianluca is a hard worker. Let's not forget we're still a new team with new bikes and not much experience in the EWC."

Marc Bourgeois

"I started day one with a big crash, which wasn't a good thing. However, I tried to gain positions and finished in the top five. Day two was better for me. I was fourth for the most part of it. On the final lap I decided to push more for the podium. Unfortunately I had three small crashes in the last three tests and ended up finishing sixth. Despite this outcome, I'm feeling really strong mentally and physically and looking forward to the rest of the championship. My plan for the next round in Portugal is to push from the beginning and try to stay in front. I can't thank Yamaha enough for their support and for giving us an incredible bike."
