Van Horebeek to miss European and Spanish GPs to allow foot fracture to heal

Yamaha Factory Racing Yamalube's Jeremy Van Horebeek will sit out the Grand Prix of Europe this weekend as well as the Grand Prix of Spain on May 10th to allow a fractured bone in his left foot to heal.

The Belgian picked up the injury after falling late in the second moto at Pietramurata last Sunday for the Grand Prix of Trentino in Italy. "The crash was not so bad but I caught my foot under the bike when I fell and it twisted it badly," the 2014 MXGP runner-up said. "I had an x-ray and the doctors could see an old injury and also a big new one where the bone is not completely broken but has a large crack."

JVH now has the foot in a cast, which he will have to wear until May 11th, one day after the Grand Prix of Spain at Talavera de la Reina and the sixth round of eighteen in the 2015 MXGP schedule. The fractured bone is quite high in the foot and close to the ankle but after three weeks of rest '89' should be fine to start riding his YZ450FM once more and consider a return for the British Grand Prix less than two weeks later.

"For sure I am disappointed…but that's life," he commented. "Last year was so perfect and we came into this season hoping to be title contenders. I have the speed - so I am not worried - but I've been down too many times this year already. I want to come back and just focus on being as fast as I can possibly be."

Van Horebeek is currently ninth in the MXGP standings. Team-mate Romain Febvre is fourth and looking to continue his impressive rookie campaign this weekend at Valkenswaard in Holland.
