Coghlan Sixth and Marino Seventh on New Yamaha YZF-R1M At Assen | In the second round of the 2015 Superstock 1000 FIM Cup MRS Yamaha rider Kev Coghlan placed sixth in a shortened nine-lap race on the latest Yamaha YZF-R1M. His team-mate Florian Marino was one place behind after experiencing painful arm-pump, but both riders scored valuable points for the second round in succession. The first start to the planned 14-lap race was halted when another rider fell and his machine spilled fluid on the track surface, leading to a delayed re-start and a final race of only nine laps. Coghlan had been with the front-runners in the first start but could not get into early contention again in the restart. He was looking to finish inside the top four with a late overtake but a late pass from another rider put him sixth, just over two tenths of a second from his desired fourth place. After a good getaway from the line and being second on the first lap of the restart Marino suffered arm-pump and he gradually dropped back. His final efforts took him to seventh on his YZF-R1M as he now looks forward to regaining his best form for the next round. After two of the scheduled eight rounds Coghlan is now fourth in the championship rankings with 26 points, Marino remains seventh, growing his score to 18 points.
The next round will take place on Sunday 10th May, at the classic Italian circuit of Imola. | | "I was a bit gutted the first race got stopped because we were well away and in the top three, and with a gap behind. We could have run with the top three in the restart but I didn't get a great start and had to work my way through a little bit. The YZF-R1M was working well, the best it has been all weekend, and that helped me move forward. It was my own mistake on the last lap because I think we could have been fourth. Going for a better position and not thinking about a guy behind cost me a place. This is a track that I have never been that comfortable with so at the end of the day it is not a nightmare, we have more points on the board and we can move forward to the next round." | | | | | | | "My race was a bit difficult and I suffered a little bit with some grip on the rear and it was difficult to hold the ideal line sometimes. After two laps I had arm pump and could not hold the bike any more. I could not ride as I should, so I felt like an actor in the race. I could not really be there to fight with the others; I was just fighting myself. I think I need to take the positives from this weekend as I upped my pace compared to Aragon and now I just need to look forward to the next one. I have a couple of weeks to think and train and arrive fresh for Imola." | | Adrian Morillas - MRS Yamaha Team | "I think Florian had a problem in the race because he started well but he rode two seconds slower than in practice. Kev went faster but, unfortunately, he started eighth or ninth in the race after he had started third in the first one that was red flagged. Kev overtook people, passed Florian, and got up to fifth. He wanted to pass the fourth place rider but he forgot that there was one guy behind and he got passed at the end. Florian had some problem but I think Kev did a good race." | race I | 1 | Lorenzo Savadori | Aprilia | ITA | 1'37.590 | 2 | Raffaele De Rosa | Ducati | ITA | 0'02.410 | 3 | Ondrej Jezek | Ducati | CZE | 0'04.734 | 4 | Fabio Massei | Ducati | ITA | 0'06.420 | 5 | Kevin Calia | Aprilia | ITA | 0'06.611 | 6 | Kev Coghlan | Yamaha | GBR | 0'06.694 | 7 | Florian Marino | Yamaha | FRA | 0'07.520 | 8 | Bryan Staring | Kawasaki | AUS | 0'08.689 | 9 | Jeremy Guarnoni | Yamaha | FRA | 0'12.496 | 10 | Marc Moser | Ducati | DE | 0'18.899 | 11 | Wayne Tessels | Suzuki | NLD | 0'22.839 | 12 | Christoffer Bergman | Yamaha | SWE | 0'22.887 | 13 | Tony CoveƱa | Ducati | NLD | 0'23.803 | 14 | Sebastien Suchet | Kawasaki | CHE | 0'28.685 | 15 | Randy Pagaud | Kawasaki | FRA | 0'28.770 | 16 | Danny De Boer | Yamaha | NLD | 0'31.955 | | | | | Circuit Length: 4555 Weather: Sunny | No standings found!
